So I am including a link in this post because I got this routine from a lady who has an impressive site on growing naturally curly hair. Her hair is breathtaking so you should all take a look :)

It describes in detail what I do but I will show some pics of how my hair looks when I do it.
After I finish washing and detangling my hair, I use an old t-shirt to soak in some of the moisture. Then I do the "curly primer" (see above link) and smooth out my curls individually. I posted a before and after pic so you can see the difference that the curly primer makes.
Left is after I finished washing and detangling. Right is after I smooth out each curl with my fingers. |
Left is again after I washed it. Right is after I smooth out each curl. You see so much more definition in the right. |
I generally wash my hair with shampoo once a week and sometime I will wash it twice a week but one time I will only use conditioner. It is so important to hold as much natural oils as possible and it makes our curls look awesome. That's why I try not to wash it too much.
At night before I go to bed, regardless of whether I washed it or not, I put my hair in two braids (I would do one if it wasn't so short) and instead of using a hair tie at the end of the braid, I insert the end into the actual braid. Here is a pic to show it better:
You can see how the end is nicely tucked in and voila! No need for hair tie which could make the hair break more. By doing this every night, I am preventing my hair from breaking and tangling. So many positives out of a simple hair style! Then in the morning I take it out and it looks great!
Lots of pretty loopy curls!! Yay!
