Memory Lane

Now that it's been 4 months since my haircut, I was reminiscing about the early days of my cut. It was definitely and huge and traumatic event for me because I feel like I always had relatives who put a lot of weight on beauty as being defined by your hair. I thought that short hair would mean that I was uglier. Not necessarily ugly- just not as pretty as I was with long hair.

Days after my cut

But cutting my hair was the best thing I ever did for it. I never regret doing it. Maybe days after the cut, I was depressed that it was so short, but I never wished that I could take it back. I struggled so much with the triangle shaped look that I knew would eventually disappear. I powered through and now here I am 4 months later with nice long locks :) there is so much more to come!!

My present day crazy locs :)

Almond Oil

My hair absolutely loves almond oil! It took me some time to realize this but when I finally figured out that the silkiness and softness came from almond oil pre-poos, I was ecstatic! It helps weigh my hair down, makes it feel soft, and gives it great shine.

I love the way it makes my hair look and my hair is stronger and better because of it! Win win :)

I'm completely failing at my vitamin goal so far but everything else is going great. I will be clarifying this next wash day and brushing with my denman.

Also today marks 4 months since my haircut!! Can't believe it. So far I love the way my hair looks and feels and I'm learning so much!!!

Seeing Results! Old Goals and New Ones

I'm so excited! Another month has gone by and in a few weeks, it will have been 4 months since my haircut. They say when you cut your hair, it takes a few months to start to see growth. For curly hair, it takes even longer than that. Well, after almost 4 months, I am seeing growth and it is getting so long already! Here is some pics to prove it.

Today was my first wash day of the new month. I pre-poo'd with olive oil and honey, and left it in for 45 minutes.

Me being silly with my silk scarf
I proceeded to shampoo it with my coconut milk shampoo and then finger de-tangled it with my Tresemee conditioner. Since it was the end of my month, I could finally look in the mirror after I washed it and observe the length. That was one of the best goals I created because when I looked in the mirror, I could not believe how long it looked! I finally got to take pictures and make comparisons.

For those who want a back to back view of the difference in length, here are some comparison pictures:
The day I cut my hair (May 29th)

The one on the left was from July 24th. The one on the right was today, September 14. Can you believe the difference in length for about a month and a half!? How bout from May? It's a huge difference! I was so excited. My goal literally helped me experience this fresh eyed view of my hair growth. On that note I will review my goals and talk about my new ones.

Pre-poo oil treatments (4) Check!
Do not look in the mirror to check for length. Check!
Go 2 weeks with just finger detangling (ended up doing 3 weeks). Check Check!

These were definitely hard goals and accomplishing them was worth it! I'm going to set even harder goals for this month and challenge myself to stick with them. Obviously it is really helping my growth. So here are my new goals.

1) Take my vitamins every day.

2)Scalp massages once a week.

3)Do not look in the mirror to check for length (after washing hair).

4) Work on eliminating flakes on scalp.

Quick review of my choices. I haven't been consistent with my vitamins lately so I want to do better with that. I rarely do scalp massages anymore and I have some good oils to choose from so I want to get back on that horse. The mirror goal was a huge success from last month so I want to continue and challenge myself to do it again. And the last one, I noticed that I have flakes on my scalp. I have tea tree oil and ACV to help with that and so far it seems to be working, but I want to try to eliminate it completely. We will see how that goes. After this successful month, I have loads of energy to bring into month number 4!

Wash day

Only a couple more days until I review my monthly goals! My last wash day was very successful. Even though I combed through with my denman brush, I still did not have that much shedding! Here is what I did.

The night before, I did a pre-poo with coconut oil and put a couple drops of peppermint oil in as well.

The next day, I shampooed with my organix coconut milk nourishing shampoo. Then I applied ACV to my scalp and hair for about five minutes. Then I rinsed it out and applied my conditioner. After finger detangling, I combed through my hair with my denman. I finished by sealing with my shea butter and moroccan oil and then braided it.

It felt and looked very long after this wash day. I took a pic where you can see the shininess from the coconut oil and the length it has got lately.

It also felt extremely soft!! I also recently purchased a satin pillow case so I won't need to wear my satin scarf all the time. Yay!! Can't wait to try it out :)

My Last Wash Day

Just wanted to share some details from my last wash day. It went really well! I did something different this time. I did a pre-poo with peppermint oil and my Moroccan hydrating mask.

I did this about 15 minutes before I went to go wash my hair. Then I proceeded to do my normal routine of shampooing, conditioning and finger detangling. Then, I put some deep conditioner into my hair and put my plastic cap on right away. I finished showering and then rinsed it out with cool water.

I finished with my Shea butter cream and sealed with jojoba oil. I'm really beginning to love the jojoba. I completely forgot to put my leave-in conditioner, yet the jojoba kept it moisturized for days afterward.

This is the third week in a row that I have only finger detangled. My hair definitely feels fuller and stronger since I've not been using my brush. This next wash day, I plan on doing a clarifying ACV rince after doing a coconut oil mask pre-poo, and then brushing my hair with my denman. After that, I will go another three weeks of just finger detangling. I'm really pleased with it and I'm glad I've had it as a goal. Speaking of goals, the not looking in the mirror one has been so hard! But in ten days, I will have completed the goal. Maybe I will look in the mirror one time and then go another month without looking. It definitely feels longer. What do you think?
